Medical Practice Makeover
Many physicians today believe that the best has come and gone. That the good ole days of medical practice epitomized by Normal Rockwell have become a fading memory for physicians and consumers alike.
Most physicians are working harder and faster just to keep up with the constant reimbursement cuts and increasing labor and supply costs. There are more forms to fill-out and less time to see each patient.
Some physicians are resorting to what’s called Concierge Medicine which may be good for the physician but generally it has the effect of “pushing away” as many as three-quarters of the physician's current practice.
Medical Practice Profits was organized to be the physicians’ clearinghouse for discovering revenue generating turn-key patient services modules that can be easily plugged into the typical practice that result in better care for the patients and more profits for the physicians.
But in order to take full advantage of the many programs offered physicians must really begin to see their practices from a different perspective.
Presently most physicians are providing sick care and most are not familiar or comfortable with the whole concept of health and wellness. Most physicians are shocked to learn that in a typical primary care practice of 2000 patients, relatively few are considered active at any one point in time.
Most are not sick and are going about their daily lives spending hundreds, perhaps thousand of their own dollars on health and wellness products and services to include vitamins, gyms, spas, beauty products, fitness equipment, weight-loss and lifestyle management programs – none of which is coordinated by the physician for the patients best interest and none of which generates any revenue dollars for the physician’s practice.
While many physicians believe their sky is falling, in fact, most are sitting on an "acre of diamonds" but fail to see it.
The other major factor that demands that physicians see their practices from a new perspective is the rapid growth of Consumer Directed Health Care (CDHC). The more that consumers are forced to pay more of their own money and make more of their own healthcare decisions the more they are going to be looking for a coach / guide to help them understand the financial implications of CDHC as well as the clinical aspects.
Who better to be their coach / guide than their physician since physicians are still found at the top of the nations “who do you trust” surveys; however, even though the physicians is the most appropriate, many physicians are ill-equipped to play such role.
Most physicians in practice today are trained to deal with sick patients and few understand or are oriented to lead the health and wellness life of their patients.
Steve Care’s (AOL founder)new Revolution Health believes the entire focus of CDHC should be directed toward the patient but such models in the past have failed. Physicians who are eager to assist their patients achieve optimal health and wellness need to see their practice from a totally new perspective.
Over time, a complete Medical Practice Makeover will result in a focus for active engagement with all of their practice on a proactive basis not just caring for the small percentage of patients who present themselves as being sick.
